The rain is back. It started last night and hasn't stopped. My daily run through the park found me very much alone. I suppose the others were wiser, as I returned cold, wet and feeling a bit worse.

Boardman, Sat. 7:12 AM
Good morning! We enjoyed reading your Blog. Thanks for your commentary on NYC, fun and chuckles. We have been in and out of the City since we moved our daughter, Christa, over on July 4th 1992. Love the place. She lived and studied on the upper west side of Manhattan and we've been hither and yon in Manhattan and some in Brooklyn, not much elsewhere, except for our Daniel who has explored much more expansively than we. For a number of years Christa lived in a 7.5 by 14 foot apt in the Commander, a residential hotel at about West 76th just west of Broadway between Central Park and Riverside Park. That was after she did a course of study in music and drama at the Ansonia for a couple of years. Thanks for your thoughtful comments on prosperity theology. Daniel and I were discussing that very thing just a few days ago. We don't see much of it in the life and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just yesterday Carol and I were reading in the Gospel of Luke chap. 12:33 "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." So much for a prosperity theology. I like what John Wesley said, in so many words: "Earn all you can, save all you can, give all you can." He gained large returns from the sale of his writings, but gave so liberally that when he died he possessed the clothes on his back, his library and a silver spoon - or so I have heard. The third section of Wesley's Sermon number 50 is "III. Having, First, gained all you can, and, Secondly saved all you can, Then "give all you can." " It would be interesting to note in his writings what his views might have been of a theology of prosperity. The sovereign God will bless as He chooses those who trust in Him. According to His own purpose He makes all grace abound toward us that we, always having all sufficiency in all things might about to every good work. Paul knew what it was to abound and to be abased, i.e. to have lots and to have little or nothing. What do I yearn for? That is what counts - for things or for the Blessed Giver of things. "He giveth us richly all things to enjoy." As you note, that doesn't mean just "things" but spiritual joys.
Gotta go to the Boardman Park and walk. I couldn't keep up with you in running, Ben. Oh, this past spring Carol and I came over to hear Christa sing in an opera and we crossed on the Geo. Washington Bridge and drove south on Riverside Drive all along Riverside Park and really enjoyed the flowers. Beautiful park, must be a great place to run. Enjoy the day. Love and prayers, Gene and Carol
